Accommodation

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) has no student accommodation on campus. However, there is accommodation nearby at Severn Point, which is owned by a private organisation called Unite Students. You can book a room through us when you apply for a place on the jazz course. Unite Students will not take individual direct bookings.

The student accommodation is approximately a 15 minute walk from RWCMD. Please see the map on the "How To Find Us" page, which is in the "Summer School Info" menu. The rooms are all single. They are simple and clean with en-suite bathrooms. They are arranged in flats, with 5 or 6 single en-suite rooms per flat and a shared kitchen/living room. The kitchens have cooking facilities including a fridge, cooker, microwave, etc.

Each apartment is provided with clean bedding including a bed sheet, duvet and duvet cover, pillow and pillow cover. Towels and loo rolls are not provided.

Each kitchen is equipped with cutlery, plates, bowls, cups, pots and pans. You will need to bring any other kitchen utensils/equipment that you require.

Please note, that the following items are NOT supplied: Loo Rolls, Towels, irons, sharp cooking knives, fans, air conditioning, coat hangers, soaps, shampoo, tea towels, dishcloths, ice cube trays, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, breakfast cereals, spare loo rolls.

These rooms are perfectly adequate for somewhere to rest, shower and prepare a basic meal, but they are not hotels. You should bear in mind that with such a full schedule on the course, you are unlikely to spend many waking hours there. However, those people who require a higher standard of comfort and service should take advantage of the many hotels available in the area.

Catering

We are well catered for at The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama with two available dining options inside the college. The foyer cafe/bar serves very good light bites and snacks as well as main course meals. In addition to this there is the Student Union canteen which offers hearty meals at very reasonable prices. Both venues will be open for all meals and will operate on a "pay-as-you-go" basis.

Please also be aware that the college is only 10mins walking distance from Cardiff city centre and all of its many various dining options. Also, if you are staying in the student halls of residence you will have self-catering facilities available. There is a Tesco metro about 10mins walk north of the halls of residence.
